Privacy Policy — QR Code

QR Code ("the app") is a QR code scanner and generator. This policy explains what information the app accesses, what it stores, and what — if anything — ever leaves your device.

Content you create or scan. Every QR code you scan or create is stored locally on your device: its decoded/encoded content, its type, an optional label you give it, and a timestamp. This never leaves your device unless you choose to Share, Save, or Export it yourself.

Camera. Used only to detect and decode QR codes in real time while you're actively scanning. The app does not record or store camera footage, and does not transmit anything the camera sees.

Photos. Used only when you choose to (a) pick an existing photo to scan a QR code from it, (b) pick a photo to encode into a QR code you're creating, or (c) save a generated QR code image to your photo library. The app does not browse or access your photo library beyond the specific photo you pick, and does not access your library at all unless you initiate one of these actions.

Contacts. Used only when you choose to create a QR code from a contact, via Create → Contact. You either pick an existing contact through your device's own native contact picker, or fill in a new one through your device's own native "add contact" screen. The app only reads the one contact you pick or create for that purpose — it does not browse, scan, or otherwise access your full contacts list.

Location. Used only if you tap "Use Current Network" while creating a Wi-Fi code. This reads the name (SSID) of whichever Wi-Fi network your device is currently connected to — both Android and iOS classify that as location-adjacent data, so reading it requires location permission, even though the app does not otherwise use, store, or have any interest in your actual location. No location coordinates are ever read, stored, or transmitted.

No account. The app doesn't require sign-up or a login, and doesn't collect your name, email, or any personal profile information itself.

Solely to run the app's core functionality: storing your scan and creation history on-device, and displaying it back to you. Export and Import are entirely user-initiated — your data leaves the device, or gets read back in, only when you explicitly choose to do so.

All app data is stored locally on your device. It's removed when you delete an individual item, use "Delete All Data" in Settings, or uninstall the app. We do not operate a server that stores your scanned or created codes.

The app displays advertisements served by Google AdMob: a banner ad in the reserved strip at the bottom of the screen, and an occasional full-screen (interstitial) ad after certain actions like scanning or creating a code. AdMob may collect device and advertising identifiers to serve and measure ads, in accordance with Google's own privacy policy: https://policies.google.com/privacy. On iOS, the app requests App Tracking Transparency permission so AdMob can use the device's advertising identifier (IDFA) for more relevant ads — you choose Allow or Ask App Not to Track in that system prompt, and can change your choice anytime in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking. We do not share your scanned or created QR content with AdMob or any advertiser — advertising identifiers are handled entirely by Google's SDK, separately from the app's own local data.

EEA, UK, and Switzerland users. Before any ad-related data is used, the app shows a consent message via Google's User Messaging Platform (UMP), letting you choose which purposes and vendors you consent to for ad personalization. You can review or change that choice at any time from Settings → Ad Privacy Options (shown only if this message applies to you).

We do not sell your data, and we do not share the content of your scanned or created QR codes with any third party. The only third-party service involved is Google AdMob (§5), which operates independently of the app's local data. The Settings → "Our Other Apps" link simply opens our developer page on the Google Play Store in your browser or the Play Store app — no data is exchanged by tapping it.

The app is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new effective date.
