Privacy Policy for Muslim Bro
Last updated: [August 17, 2026]
This Privacy Policy explains how Muslim Bro ("the App," "we," "us," "our") handles information when you access or use our mobile application, and sets out the terms under which the App is provided to you. By downloading, installing, or using the App, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Policy and agree to be bound by it. If you do not agree, do not use the App.
The App is designed with privacy in mind: there is no user account or sign-in, and almost everything the App knows about you stays on your device.
If you have questions about this policy, contact us at [insert contact email].
---
1. Eligibility and Acceptance
The App is intended for general audiences. If you are a minor in your jurisdiction, you may only use the App with the involvement and consent of a parent or legal guardian. By using the App, you represent that you have the legal capacity to agree to this Policy, or that a parent/guardian has done so on your behalf where required.
2. Summary
- The App does not require you to create an account and does not collect your name, email address, or other account credentials on a server.
- Your prayer-time settings, tracker history, favorite mosques, favorited Quran verses, and other preferences are stored locally on your device.
- The App uses your location (with your permission) to calculate prayer times, the Qibla direction, and nearby mosques.
- The App uses Google AdMob to show ads — including optional rewarded video ads you choose to watch in exchange for extended access to the home screen widget — and separate third-party APIs (described below) to calculate prayer times, look up nearby mosques, retrieve Quran text/audio, and fetch current gold/silver prices for the Zakat Calculator; each may collect certain data as described in Sections 4 and 5.
- You can export, import, or delete your locally stored data at any time from within the App, or remove all data by uninstalling the App.
- The App, its content, and the information it displays (prayer times, Hijri dates, Qibla direction, Quran text/translations, and mosque listings) are provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis, without warranty of any kind — see Section 8.
3. Information We Collect
a) Location Data
If you grant permission, the App accesses your device's GPS/network location (or a city you search for manually) in order to:
- Calculate daily prayer times for your area.
- Determine the Qibla direction from your position.
- Determine your Hijri calendar date and local holidays.
- Find mosques near you, when you use the Nearby Mosques feature.
Your coordinates are sent to the third-party APIs described in Section 4 to retrieve this information. Location data is cached locally on your device so the App can work offline. We do not use your location for any purpose other than the features described above, and we do not sell your location to data brokers.
You may deny or revoke location access at any time in your device settings; you can still use most of the App by manually searching for and selecting a city, though the Nearby Mosques feature specifically requires a location to function.
b) App Preferences, Prayer Tracker, and Favorites
The App stores, only on your device:
- Your display name (if you choose to enter one), used only to personalize greetings shown to you within the App.
- Your chosen prayer calculation method, time format, theme, language, and notification preferences.
- Your prayer-tracker history (which prayers you've marked as completed and when).
- Your Nearby Mosques search settings (radius, result limit) and any mosques you save as favorites.
- Your Quran reading preferences (display mode, reciter, downloaded translations and recitation audio) and any ayahs you favorite.
- The home screen widget's current access status (i.e., how many days of free/ad-earned access remain) — stored locally so the widget itself can check it without needing the App to be open; never transmitted anywhere.
This information is never transmitted to us or to any third party, except as part of a backup file that you explicitly choose to export and share yourself (see Section 6), or the minimal data described in Section 3(a)/Section 4 sent to third-party APIs to retrieve prayer times, mosque listings, Quran content, or Zakat metal prices.
c) Advertising and Device Identifiers
The App displays advertisements served through Google AdMob — banner ads shown passively within the App, and optional rewarded video ads that you choose to start (via a confirmation prompt) in exchange for extending the home screen widget's access window. To serve and measure these ads, Google AdMob and its partners may automatically collect information such as your device's advertising identifier, IP address and approximate location derived from it, device type and operating system, and general app usage/interaction data related to ads. This information is collected and processed by Google under its own privacy and advertising policies, linked in Section 4. We do not control, and are not given access to, the individual advertising identifiers Google collects. Watching a rewarded ad is always optional — the widget also includes a free access period on first install that requires no ad at all.
d) Information We Do Not Collect
We do not collect your name, email address, phone number, or any other directly identifying account information on our servers, because the App has no account system or backend server for personal data. We do not access your contacts, photos, messages, or other apps.
4. Third-Party Services
The App relies on the following third-party services, each governed by its own privacy policy. We are not responsible for the privacy or data practices of these third parties, and your use of features backed by them is also subject to their own terms:
| Service | Purpose | Data shared | |---|---|---| | AlAdhan.com API | Calculates daily prayer times and Hijri calendar dates | Latitude/longitude and the calculation method you've selected | | OpenStreetMap Overpass API (overpass-api.de and mirrors) | Looks up mosques near a location for the Nearby Mosques feature | Latitude/longitude and your chosen search radius/result limit | | AlQuran Cloud API (alquran.cloud) | Provides Quran text, surah/edition metadata, and translations | The surah, ayah, and edition/translation you request — no personal or location data | | Islamic Network CDN (cdn.islamic.network) | Delivers Quran audio recitation files | The reciter and ayah you request — no personal or location data | | xaus.com API | Provides current gold/silver spot prices for the Zakat Calculator | Your selected display currency only — no personal or location data | | Google AdMob (Google Mobile Ads SDK) | Displays in-app banner ads and optional rewarded video ads | Advertising identifier, IP address, device/app data as described in Section 3(c) | | Third-party map apps (e.g. Apple Maps, Google Maps, Waze) | Opened only when you tap "Open" on a mosque to get directions | The mosque's name and address, passed to whichever app you choose — this only happens if you tap that button |

5. How We Use Information
We use the information described above solely to:
- Calculate and display prayer times, Qibla direction, Hijri calendar information, nearby mosques, Quran text/audio, and current Zakat metal prices for your location and preferences.
- Remember your preferences, prayer-tracking history, and favorites between app sessions.
- Send you local notifications/reminders for prayer times, if you enable them (scheduled entirely on your device, requiring no data to be sent anywhere).
- Display advertisements — including rewarded ads you choose to watch — that help keep the App free to use.
- Maintain, secure, debug, and improve the App.
- Comply with applicable law or respond to lawful requests from public authorities.
We do not use your information for automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects, and we do not sell your personal information for money. To the extent any data sharing described above could be considered a "sale" or "share" under laws like the CCPA, you can limit it by declining location and advertising permissions in your device settings.
6. Your Data, Your Control
- Local storage only. With the exception of the minimal data described in Section 4 (sent to AlAdhan.com, the OpenStreetMap Overpass API, AlQuran Cloud, the Islamic Network CDN, and xaus.com to retrieve prayer times, mosque listings, Quran content, and Zakat metal prices, respectively) and to Google AdMob (as described above), your settings, tracker history, and favorites never leave your device.
- Export/Import. The Settings screen lets you export your settings and tracker data to a file you control, and import a previously exported file. You decide if, how, and with whom that file is shared.
- Deletion. You can clear the App's data at any time via your device's App Info settings, or simply by uninstalling the App, which permanently removes all locally stored data.
- Notification permissions. You can disable prayer notifications at any time in Settings or in your device's system settings.
- Location permissions. You can revoke location access at any time in your device's system settings without losing the ability to use most of the App (you can instead search for your city manually), though Nearby Mosques specifically requires a location.
7. Disclaimer of Accuracy
Prayer times, Qibla direction, Hijri calendar dates, mosque listings, Quran text/translations, Zakat calculations, and estimated walking/driving times displayed in the App are calculated or retrieved automatically from third-party sources and are provided for general convenience only. They may not be perfectly accurate, may not reflect the specific rulings of your local mosque or religious authority, and may be affected by calculation-method differences, data errors, GPS/location inaccuracy, or third-party service downtime.
You are solely responsible for verifying prayer times and any other religiously significant information independently, including with your local mosque, Islamic center, or religious authority, before relying on it for religious observance. We make no representation or warranty, express or implied, as to the accuracy, completeness, or timeliness of any information the App displays, and we are not liable for any consequence — religious, personal, or otherwise — arising from reliance on it.
Similarly, mosque listings (including name, address, and distance) come from a third-party directory we do not operate or verify, and walking/driving time estimates are rough approximations calculated from straight-line distance, not an actual route — they are explicitly labeled as estimates within the App and should not be relied upon for precise timing or navigation-critical decisions.
The Zakat Calculator is a general-guidance tool only: it does not account for every situation (retirement accounts, agricultural produce, livestock, and other cases with their own separate rules), the metal prices it uses are indicative market rates from a third-party API rather than a settlement-grade or transactional quote, and which nisab standard or scholarly position applies to your own circumstances is a religious determination this App does not make for you. Consult a qualified scholar before relying on any figure the Zakat Calculator produces, particularly given the real financial and religious obligations involved.
8. No Warranty; Limitation of Liability
THE APP IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE," WITHOUT WARRANTIES OF ANY KIND, WHETHER EXPRESS, IMPLIED, OR STATUTORY, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, or that the App will be uninterrupted, error-free, or secure. We do not warrant that any information provided through the App (including prayer times, Qibla direction, or mosque data) is accurate, reliable, or current.
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, in no event will we, our developers, or our affiliates be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, exemplary, or punitive damages, or for any loss of data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or in connection with your access to or use of (or inability to access or use) the App, whether based on warranty, contract, tort (including negligence), statute, or any other legal theory, even if we have been advised of the possibility of such damages. Where liability cannot be fully excluded under applicable law, our total aggregate liability for any claim arising from the App is limited to the amount (if any) you paid us to use the App in the twelve months preceding the claim, or, if the App is free, to fifty US dollars (or the equivalent in your local currency).
Some jurisdictions do not allow the exclusion or limitation of certain warranties or liabilities, so some of the above limitations may not apply to you; in that case, our liability is limited to the greatest extent permitted by applicable law.
9. Indemnification
To the extent permitted by applicable law, you agree to defend, indemnify, and hold harmless the developer of the App and our affiliates from and against any claims, liabilities, damages, losses, and expenses (including reasonable legal fees) arising out of or in any way connected with your misuse of the App, your violation of this Policy, or your violation of any rights of a third party.
10. Third-Party Content and Links
The App may display or link to content, services, or apps operated by third parties — including prayer-time data, mosque listings, and third-party map applications you choose to open. We do not control and are not responsible for the content, accuracy, availability, or practices of any third-party service, and linking to or displaying such content does not imply our endorsement of it. Your interactions with any third-party service are solely between you and that third party.
11. Data Retention
Locally stored data (settings, tracker history, favorites, cached prayer times, downloaded Quran text/audio/translations) remains on your device until you clear it, export/delete it yourself, or uninstall the App. We do not retain copies of this data ourselves, since it is never transmitted to or stored on our own servers. Cached results from the Overpass API (mosque listings) and the xaus.com API (metal prices) are kept on your device temporarily to avoid unnecessary repeat requests and expire automatically.
12. Children's Privacy
The App is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the relevant minimum age for data-processing consent in your country, which may be older, e.g. 16 in parts of the EU), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under that age. Because the App has no account system and stores data locally on-device, we have no practical means of knowingly collecting a child's personal information on a server. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child has provided us with personal information in a manner inconsistent with this Policy, please contact us so we can address it, including deletion where applicable.
13. Your Privacy Rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights under applicable law regarding personal information relating to you, which for this App generally means the limited data described in Sections 3–4. Because virtually all of that data lives locally on your device rather than on our servers, you can typically exercise these rights directly:
- Access and portability: use the App's export feature to obtain a copy of your locally stored settings and tracker data.
- Correction: edit your settings, tracker entries, and favorites directly within the App at any time.
- Deletion: clear the App's data or uninstall the App, as described in Section 6.
- Withdrawal of consent / opt-out: revoke location or notification permissions in your device settings at any time; opt out of personalized advertising through your device's ad settings.
For the limited data processed by our third-party providers (Sections 4–5), you may also contact those providers directly, or contact us at the email in Section 19 and we will assist where we are able to. If you believe we have not adequately addressed a request, you may have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
14. Security
We take reasonable measures to protect the limited data the App handles. Because most of your data is stored locally on your own device, its security also depends on your device's own security (passcode, encryption, and app permissions). No method of electronic storage or transmission is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
15. International Users and Data Transfers
Prayer-time and mosque data is requested from third-party servers based on the coordinates you provide, regardless of your country, which may involve processing that data outside your own country (including in the United States, where Google's services are based). By using the App, you understand and consent to this limited location data being processed by these third parties as described in this Policy, subject to appropriate safeguards those providers maintain under applicable law.
16. Changes to the App and This Policy
We may add, modify, suspend, or discontinue any feature of the App (including any feature described in this Policy) at any time, with or without notice, and without liability to you for doing so. We may also update this Privacy Policy from time to time, for example to reflect changes in the App's features or in applicable law. Material changes will be posted here with an updated "Last updated" date, and, where required by law, we will provide additional notice. Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy; if you do not agree to an updated policy, your only recourse is to stop using the App.
17. Governing Law
This Policy is governed by the laws of [insert governing jurisdiction, e.g. your country/state of residence or incorporation], without regard to its conflict-of-law principles, except to the extent applicable consumer-protection or data-protection law in your own country of residence provides otherwise and cannot be waived.
18. Severability
If any provision of this Policy is found unenforceable or invalid under applicable law, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary so that this Policy will otherwise remain in full force and effect.
